18) VEHICLE FUELING

Be sure of the fuel type the vehicle requires. We operate both diesel and gasoline fueled vehicles. Putting the incorrect fuel in a vehicle is a costly but preventable mistake.

No vehicle shall be allowed to drop below ½ tank of fuel (unless actively engaged in transport).

No vehicle shall be turned over to the oncoming shift with less than ¾ tank of fuel

Diesel vehicles require Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) due to emissions requirements. All vehicles that require DEF will provide an alert when the DEF is low, although most to not have a way to view the actual level of DEF. DEF should be filled at least weekly on all diesel vehicles.

If a vehicle runs out of DEF, it will become inoperable. DEF levels are just as important as fuel levels.

Never add DEF to the fuel tank. Vehicles have a separate tank for DEF.

FUEL CARD USE:

Each vehicle has a fuel card assigned to it. This card can be used to purchase fuel at nearly any gas station. When using the card, you will be required to enter the current mileage of the vehicle and your driver number. Make sure to enter ACCURATE mileage.

DO NOT share your Driver Number with anyone!

When using the fuel card at some gas stations (usually Circle K), the display may read “unsupported Chip Card”. If this happens, leave the card in for a moment. The system will recognize it and allow you to proceed.
